The last issue of "ZEM15 Take You to See the World" Xiaobian used ZEM15 to shoot onion lotus pollen for everyone, I wonder if you guys feel like Xiaobian has opened the door to a new world? In this issue, we'll talk about the pollen of Asteraceae plants.
Figure 1 Huang Qiuying (picture from Baidu Encyclopedia)
"Mo Tao does not get lost, the curtain rolls the west wind, people are thinner than yellow flowers"-Song, Li Qingzhao.
Since ancient times, the poems of chanting chrysanthemum have a touch of sadness, as if chrysanthemum is a synonym for gentleness and "seeing things and thinking of people. Unexpectedly, the pollen of Compositae plants is so "unrestrained"...
Figure 2 Huang Qiuying and Samara samples
Huang Qiuying and Samara are more common in Asteraceae plants, and they can be seen everywhere in roadside flower beds. Huang Qiuying also often appears in film and television works because of his poetic name and tenacious vitality (PS: Hands up after hearing the name "Qiu Ying").
Pollen from Asteraceae is a recognized source of allergenic pollen transmission. Today, let's use the ZEM15 desktop scanning electron microscope to study whether there is some connection between this allergic pollen and its surface structure.
Figure 3 Huang Qiuying pollen
Huang Qiuying pollen under 1000 times of desktop scanning electron microscope is spherical or ellipsoidal. The single particle size is much smaller than that of onion lotus pollen (about 50 um) reported in our previous issue. The larger particle pollen is about 30-40 um, and the small particle pollen length is less than 20 um. At first glance, is it very similar to the "little thorn ball" (Xanthium sibiricum) we often played when we were young?
Figure 4 Huang Qiuying pollen
under 5000 times of desktop scanning electron microscope Let's take a closer look at this "thorn ball". There will be some hole structures at the root of a strong thorn pile. Some thorns may be affected by external force and have been bent. This kind of thorn ball structure seems to be more likely to adhere to the surface of the object than other relatively smooth surface pollen. Xiaobian speculates that this may be related to the allergy caused by its easy attachment to the nasal mucosa of the population.
Figure 5 Huang Qiuying pollen under 10000 times of desktop scanning electron microscope and under 10000 times of Huang Qiuying pollen, Huang Qiuying pollen does not seem to be so regular, with many concave-convex and proliferative structures on the surface, which is extremely "unrestrained".
Figure 6 Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope Samara pollen
Let's look at the pollen of another compositae plant-Samara. If Huang Qiuying's pollen is "unrestrained", then Samantha's pollen is somewhat "wild. The overall pollen of Samara is also spherical, with a single particle size of about 30 um, and the surface is also covered with firm thorns.

, a deep hole can be clearly seen in the middle of the pollen, and many large pits are arranged around the hole. What do you think the big pits and holes do?
The second phase of the ZEM15 Electron Microscope Pollen Look is here, and more interesting pollen electron microscope photos will be updated for you later. If you have anything you want to see, you are also welcome to write a private letter or leave a message.

The above research was completed by ZEM15 Desktop Scanning Electron Microscope independently developed by Zeyu Technology. The electronic optical system, detector, circuit control system, signal acquisition system and operating software of
ZEM15 are all independently developed by Zeyou Technology. Specially developed electronic optical system design, so that the picture has a higher signal-to-noise ratio and contrast. With the extremely high signal acquisition bandwidth, samples can be displayed smoothly with high quality at the video frame rate. All operations can be done with just a mouse, without the need for a diaphragm to medium complex steps. The host integrated high-voltage and control system is the smallest desktop scanning electron microscope on the market at present, which is easy to move and does not require special environment for installation.
