Sn-based lithium-ion battery anode materials have high specific capacity and good safety, and are likely to replace graphite as the anode material for commercial lithium-ion batteries in the future. Recently, PicoFemto®Helping Professor Deng Hong, Professor Xiong Xunhui and Professor Lin Zhang of South China University of Technology to make another breakthrough in the research of Sn @ C- based ion battery anode materials. The relevant research results were published in the international journal Nano Letters (IF = 12.08) under the title of "Upcycling of Electroplating Sludge into Ultrafine Sn @ C Nanorods with Highly Stable Lithium Storage Performance.

Researchers used Bacillus subtilis to regenerate metallic tin (Sn) from electroplating sludge, fine tin metal particles can be embedded in porous carbon rods co-doped with nitrogen and phosphorus, and it is found that the carbon rods (Sn @ C) loaded with tin metal particles have excellent lithium storage performance (reversible capacity: 560 mAh/g at 1 A/g, with almost no attenuation for about 1500 cycles) when used as anode materials for lithium ion batteries. They use PicoFemto®The structural stability of Sn @ C anode materials during lithiation and delithiation was studied in real time by in-situ electrical sample rod (TEM-STM holder) in transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the internal Sn nanoparticles would expand and contract periodically during lithiation and delithiation. In situ transmission electron microscopy studies show that Carbon matrix can effectively alleviate the mechanical stress caused by volume expansion during lithiation and de-lithiation of negative materials, so that the internal Sn nanoparticles remain intact, ensuring the cycle stability and good rate performance of Sn @ C negative materials. Researchers believe that: 1, nano-scale Sn particles; 2, Sn nanoparticles in the carbon cage uniform distribution; 3, nitrogen, phosphorus co-doped carbon layer is the Sn @ C anode material good cycle stability and rate performance of the key factors. This study uses the tin metal in bacterial regenerated sludge waste to cleverly obtain a high-stability tin-based lithium-ion battery anode material. We believe that this new scheme may be extended to transition metals and metal oxides as anode materials in the future. Among the new generation of lithium-ion batteries.
