ZEPTOOLS Technology | Breaking the Black Box—The Modular Revolution in Desktop Electron Microscopy as Seen Through NanoMi
For a long time, the electron microscope has been regarded as the jewel in the crown of precision instruments. However, its enormous size, high cost, and complex maintenance requirements have made it a “black box” that deters most ordinary laboratories from adopting it. Yet, with the rise of the open-source hardware movement and advances in micro- and nano-fabrication technologies, a “desktop revolution” in electron microscopy is quietly underway. Drawing on the open-source electron-microscopy project NanoMi as a technical blueprint, this article delves deeply into the modular design philosophy of electron optics and explores the ongoing debate between electrostatic lenses and magnetic lenses.

ZEPTOOLS Technology | From Graphene to Heterostructures: What Exactly Has Changed with Two-Dimensional Materials?
Imagine this: The macroscopic world we’re all familiar with—those sturdy concrete skyscrapers, conductive copper wires, or resilient rubber tires—seems to have properties that were “preordained” from the start. Concrete is strong because cement tightly binds sand and gravel together; rubber is elastic because polymer chains are cross-linked with one another. Yet over the past two decades, the field of materials science has uncovered a startling secret: When we shrink materials down to their absolute smallest scale—down to just a single atomic layer thick—those familiar physical rules we’ve long taken for granted undergo a dramatic transformation.
The Core Enabler of Quantum Chip Fabrication: Principles and Applications of Electron Beam Lithography
A quantum chip serves as the "brain" of a quantum computer, and its central role is akin to that of a central processing unit (CPU) in a conventional computer. However, unlike traditional chips, which rely on the operations of classical bits "0" and "1," quantum chips perform computations by leveraging the quantum mechanical properties of "quantum bits (Qubits)"—a feat made possible only with the precise support of electron beam lithography. Starting from the nature of quantum bits, this article analyzes their connection to electron beam lithography and explores how hybrid lithography techniques can address the challenge of mass-producing quantum chips.
