ZEM15 takes you to see the microscopic world-bees under the desktop scanning electron microscope

May Day has just ended. Today, Zeyou Science and Technology Editor will take you to learn more about our natural model worker-bees.

HRTEM in situ deformation study: twin order dislocation migration kinetics of nano-twinned copper

In a metal or alloy having a face-centered cubic structure (FCC), the twin boundary can effectively hinder the dislocation movement, so that the metal or alloy having a high density of nano-twins has both excellent strength and plasticity. For FCC copper, the growth/annealing twins are usually rectangular and contain abundant non-coherent twin boundaries (Incoherent Twin Boundaries,ITBs). The deformation twin usually has a spindle shape, and its interface is a step-shaped common lattice twin boundary (Serrated Coherent Twin Boundaries, SCTBs), which consists of a common lattice twin boundary and a twin order fault (Twinning Disconnections, TDs) step.

In-situ TEM Study on Charge and Discharge Mechanism of High Temperature Lithium Battery

The theoretical energy density of Li-CO2-ion batteries (about 1876 Wh/kg) is much higher than that of lithium-ion batteries (about 265 Wh/kg). However, during the charging process, the decomposition of Li2CO3 requires a high potential, which leads to poor cycle stability of the battery and seriously hinders the development of Li-CO2 batteries. Regarding the reaction mechanism of Li-CO2 batteries, there are still some controversies, such as discharge products: some people believe that Li2CO3 and carbon are the main discharge products, while some people report that Li2CO3 and CO are the main products during discharge.

In situ transmission electron microscopy to observe the growth kinetics of lithium dendrite piercing solid electrolyte and dead lithium in solid-state batteries

Lithium dendrite growth has been a major problem affecting the safety of lithium ion batteries based on liquid electrolytes. In theory, solid-state lithium metal batteries using ceramic materials as solid electrolyte (SSE) can effectively inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites, and batteries using lithium metal as the negative electrode have higher energy density.

Intrinsic deformation mechanism of five-fold twin revealed by in situ electron microscopy at Zhejiang University

Crystal twinning occurs when two separate crystals symmetrically share the same lattice plane, a twin boundary (TB). In the extreme case, when 5 TBs are connected concurrently on a straight line parallel to their common axis [110], a five-fold twin will appear. In bulk metal samples, five-fold twins often form under severe plastic deformation or annealing conditions associated with grain growth.

ZEM15 takes you to see the world-onion lotus pollen under desktop scanning electron microscope

The last issue of "ZEM15 Takes You to See the World" used ZEM15 desktop scanning electron microscope to take pictures of bees for everyone. Unexpectedly, the strongest response was not the bee stings, but the picture of bees carrying powder feet. Some small partners wrote in private letters: "We have seen it with enough powder. What kind of pollen is it?"
